With the way the Yankees' bats looked the previous night, and considering that Jason Giambi, Hideki Matsui, and Gary Sheffield were out of the lineup, a 9-run defecit seemed a bit out of reach. But the Yanks were not giving up that early, as they inched (ok, I don't know if that's the word) their way back and matched the largest comeback in team history with a 14-13 victory over Texas.

Needless to say, Shawn Chacon was not sharp in this one., as he allowed 7 ER on 6 hits in only an inning and a third. Aaron Small and Scott Proctor gave up two runs each, and Rivera, who picked up his first win of the year, accounted for one run.

The Yankees trailed 9-0 after the Rangers tattooed them for 7 in the second inning and the Rangers added one more in the 3rd to make it 10-1. From there, the Yankees started to work their way back into it, as Derek Jeter doubled to bring in Johnny Damon and Jorge Posada brought Jeter home with a single to cap off a two-run third inning. Posada brought home another run in the 5th as the Yankees put on another two to make it 10-5. The Yankees then exploded in the 6th with six runs, highlighted by Derek Jeter's home run and Bernie's RBI double. The Yankees had come all the way back from down 9-0 to take an 11-10 lead. But it wasn't over yet.

In the top of the 7th, Brad Wilkerson launched a two run homer off Scott Proctor to put Texas up 12-11. Could you imagine coming all the way back like that just to blow it late in the game and go home empty handed? Luckily for the Yankees, they were able to tie the game in the bottom of the inning with a sac fly from Posada (anyone seeing a pattern here?).

Mariano Rivera struggled in the top of the 9th, giving up a run on two hits, which came on an RBI double by Rod Barajas to put Texas back ahead again 13-12. Johnny Damon led off the bottom of the 9th with an infield single. Jeter moved Damon to 2nd with a ground out and A-Rod lined out to center. With the Yankees out of second chances with two outs in the 9th, Jorge Posada took the first three pitches to go ahead 3-0 in the count and then took the 3-1 pitch over the right field wall (courtesy: Yankees.com) for a walk-off two run homer. The game will probably be on YES' Yankees Classics around...right now.

The Yankees had a few heroes last night. Derek Jeter was 4-5 with a homer and 4 RBI and was only a triple away from the cycle. Miguel Cairo knocked in three runs. The game ball, however, has to go to Posada, who drove in 5 runs, including the key sac fly to tie the game in the 7th and obviously the two-run shot in the 9th to win it.

The series will resume tonight in the Bronx, with Chien-Ming Wang going up against Kameron Loe. Not too sure how the Yanks would wanna plug this game for T.V. "The game will not be as exciting as last night's, but you should watch it anyway." The game starts at 7:05 ET on YES.
