Not for nothing, but that Carlos Gomez guy has NO idea what he's talking about. Suggesting that Brackman should speed up his delivery and quicken his arm is quite possibly the worst suggestion in the history of pitching.

The guy's 6'10" 230-ish, his body is only going to move so fast. Having all that weight back while he jerks his arm forward will lead to horribly bad things. Just ask <a href="http://thebaseballcube.com/...">

When pitchers loose their mechanics the pitching coach tells them to slow down their delivery and get it under control, not speed the damn thing up.

Slow and deliberate is the way to go, who cares if you give up a few more stolen bases? It's better than not being able to lift your arm above your head for the rest of your life.

This is Carlos Gomez, the author of the article at The Hardball Times. In my video analysis of pitchers, I have found that the best (and usually hardest throwers) are actually quite speedy with their deliveries from around their top of the knee lifts to release. Unfortunately, the feeling in baseball is that EVERYONE needs to slow down and be deliberate. It comes down to this: why would you work against gravity and slow yourself down instead of keeping your going forward. The idea is to get a running start in order to get your body to help accelerate the arm. Think about it for a second, what makes more sense?

I used to be that guy (years ago), that thought that being slow and nice was the way to go...not the case.
