05/12: Matsui Streak Ends; Melky to Play Most of the Time

With his injury, Matsui's consecutive game streak of 518 games (1,768 if you count his Japanese playing career) comes to an end. Didn't want it to pass without mentioning. Very impressive. Sad to see it end so abruptly - and in a manner that will have us missing Matsui for a while.

"We have to take it day by day," Torre said. "Cabrera will play most of the time; Bernie will DH a lot of the time and play some outfield, also. Bubba has certainly given us a reason to play him; he does a lot of good things out there."

While certainly under horrid circumstances, I'm glad to see the streak end. There have been several times over the course of the last couple of seasons where Matsui just looked bone-tired. A day off here and there would probably have been nice.

I could not agree with Steve more when it comes to this situation, esp. with Reese coming up instead of Thompson. That screams that Bubba will be getting a lot of ABs and that Reese will be the designated bench guy.

IMO he inititally damaged it Tuesday night and last night was the coup de gras.

No way Matsui makes the catch that Bubba made. They can survive Matsui's absence.

Play Melky every day.

Let the kids play - at least it will be interesting. Cano was in may ways a desperation move last May and since he hit NY he's got more hits than 2Bman in MLB.

I had a feeling Damon was gonna have some repercussions from his meeting with the wall.
