08/12: Yankees 5-3 victory provides weekend slump of Indians

Jason Giambi started the scoring with a two run homer and the Yankees added another later. Melky Cabrera extended his hitting streak to 17 with a homer and Derek Jeter's clutch RBI single in the ninth added insurance as the Yankees held on to beat the Tribe 5-3.
Andy Pettitte started and was sharp through 7 1/3. In the sixth he loaded the bases with no outs and then got the biggest out of the game when he and Andy Phillips pulled a stunning play to pick off Jhonny Peralta from first base. Cleveland would score to make it a 3-1 game at the time but they should have had much more.
Cabrera's homer gave a Yankees a three run lead and Pettitte tired in the eighth allowing two runners on. Luis Vizcaino entered and got to two outs but another run scored and the tying runs were on base.
Rivera came in and hit Garko with a pitch but got Peralta to hit into a force play to end the inning.
The Yankees would add an insurance run in the ninth with an RBI single from Jeter. Rivera was not sharp and allowed the first three batters in the bottom of the ninth to get hits and one run to score. With runners on second and third and the Yankees having only a two run lead, Rivera struck out Cabrera and Sizemore and got Blake to fly to right to end the game.
The Yankees now head home to start a series vs the Orioles with Chien-Ming Wang on the hill tomorrow night.
