Phil Rizzuto has died at the age of 89.
A hall of famer, 5 time All-Star and MVP winner, Rizzuto played 13 seasons with the Yankees (missing 1943 through 1945 due to war). He had a career batting average of .271 and played on 9 pennant winners, leading to 7 World Series championships. Rizzuto would later be known by generations of Yankees fans as a broadcaster, a role he played for over 40 years. For more on Rizzuto and his life, see his Wikipedia entry.
Rizzuto was a good man and he will be missed. Our thoughts are with those close to him.
